”My children are unmotivated
Can you speak with them
When you’re finished with school …”
”I can fix that.”
”My partner isn’t speaking with me
Can you set up a meeting and
Help us resolve it …”
”I can fix that.”
”I have to attend a family reunion.
You’re pretty sociable.
Can you come with me
So it’s not so awkward …”
”I can fix that.”
”I am unhappy.
You should change to
Make this relationship work …”
”I can fix that.”
”I can fix that.”
”I can fix that.”
Until I discovered that I couldn’t
Truly fix anything …
I just wanted to feel needed.
I enjoyed the illusion of control …
Everyone makes their own decisions
And accepts the consequences
For their actions …
I remember reading a quote that stated :
”You can’t change
The people around you
But you can change
The people around you.”
The people around me now
Resolve their own issues.
Rarely, must I offer a perspective.
I never fix anything.
